Drive It Day, 24th April 2022
Our Sunday Drive It Day Run was organised by Jim & Chris Tully. What follows is Jim & Chris’ report, pretty much in their own words: Our Derbyshire Dales Drive It Day run commenced on the bright, sunny, but cool morn of the 24 April at ToadHole Furnace (or, as we know it, The Amber Hotel). Nine cars proceeded from there via the White Peak borders to Crich, Cromford, Hartington – with a rest stop – and the periphery of the Dark Peak and coffee for some. Here we picked up the waifs and strays that didn’t make it to the Amber, including Alan, Penny’s friend, in a well-maintained black MG TC. Inclusive club or what!!! Onward, to Warslow and the Mermaid, to the Paul Rey memorial and viewpoint. With scattered cloud casting dark shadow enhancing the maleficent brooding aire to the glorious view of the Roaches. What a difference a week makes. With much viewing and photo taking later, off to a coffee stop on the A53 - or not, as a difficult landlady pointed at the door saying” Get out of my pub!!” (vis: East Enders circa 2010 BBC ) “Ladies and gentlemen to your cars” and Macclesfield Forest, over more swooping, curvaceous and scenic roads respecting the “newly clarified” rights of the lycra clad men and women from the People’s Republic of South Yorkshire and other nucleated counties. Through the glade-studded forest adorned with picknickers, the stoic TR Derbyshire Dales people “power (or lack of) drift” into the Leather’s Smithy pub car park and LUNCH . The car park concours did not take place due to staff shortage. My apologies; anyway Alan’s 3A would have won, again. Good luck at Stafford Alan!! However, landlord John & co. provided great food reasonably priced. It is definitely worth a second visit. On behalf of TR Derbyshire Dales members and friends we would like to thank ourselves for supporting the “Child Line” themed Drive It Day.
