"Si fractum non sit, noli id reficere"
Greetings Cumbria Group,
Absolute first thing I need to mention is the very sad passing of CG Stalwart for nigh on twenty years, Peter Guy. A few of us managed to tuck inside the Covid numbers to attend Peters funeral. Peter was one of those few and far between men, you were proud to call a friend, and our thoughts go to Daphne at this terrible time
To summarise our last few weeks, Our planned group lunch did not in the end pan out as hoped, combination of hotel Covid restrictions, being changed on, 'The Hoof', as it were meant all Peter Bonsalls hard work, and previous assurances came to nought.
First Sunday in July we had a group run to Afternoon Tea, this went down really well, and I'm sure we will repeat some time.
Sunday July 25th, saw the group, once again as guests of Helen and Michael, at their beautiful Matterdale home for a BBQ, This was stunningly good, one of those days when everything was perfect, fourteen cars, including new CG members Ros and Steve Hinde, out with us for the first, of hopefully many times, through to our gracious hosts, weather, route, all spot on, and believe me, if you didn't enjoy this outing then you are in the wrong hobby, this is as good as it gets!
....and to the next few weeks,
August 13th/15th and the IWE, at the for me, best of all venues, Malvern. We won't have a group presence, but a number CG of folk are making the weekend, and if you can at all, I would urge you to catch even a single day. Covid restriction easing, means it is possible to pay at the gate now, and do not forget this year, combined with the, The MG Club, so is going to be the biggest ever!
Sunday August 22nd, and Dalemain Show, We did not plan to attend, as the day clashed with the rescheduled Triumph/MG Spares Day. That has now been moved again, so there is nothing to stop us, paying at the gate and enjoying the largest Classic Car Show, for many a mile.
Following Sunday, some of us are at Oulton Park, for part of the Gold Cup Weekend.
That takes us into September.
We will have a group run First Sunday of the month, meet will be Cranston's, Penrith 11.00AM.
Sunday 12th, and we are looking at taking some cars to a static show at Lingholm Estate at Portinscale, nr. Keswick. Brian Moreton has the info on this one, but we did rendezvous there last August for one of our picnic runs, it is a stunning place with everything from location to history, something for all and we should attend if possible.
I'll have final detail nearer the time, but keep your diaries free.
The very next day, Monday 13th, is Appleby Rotary Clubs, re-scheduled
Classic Car Run. Normally oversubscribed, Neil Marland tells me, that this year they have just a couple of vacancies. Jim and Anne are doing this, as am I. If you think you want to participate, you really need, not to wait.
Now in our last newsletter, I asked for some ideas for something extra for the group this year. Suggestions ranged from another camping weekend, through to hiring a house and sharing the cooking/costs.
With the burden of leadership weighing heavily on my shoulders, I plumped for another hotel based overnighter, this time staying in Castle Douglas, along the Galloway Coast.
Camping was too limiting for those who would consider participating, and
Sharing a house, was a financial commitment too far, without being able to discuss with the whole group.
Reserving a Hotel, via Booking.com, means anyone can go, and if its a poor idea, can be cancelled at no cost.
So, details are Friday, that's FRIDAY September 24th. We have six rooms, 2 x Twins and 4 x Doubles, on a B & B basis at £35.00PP, Dinner is available at the Hotel, Though not yet booked. First come first served, as they say.
First Sunday in October, and Mark and Anne Sindle are organising our Autumn Leaves Run.
November will see us at A Natter/Day with Lunch, likely to be back at Crooklands but TBC.
SATURDAY December 4th. should see us back at Lyzzic Hall Hotel, on Bassenthwaite for Lunch, and the traditional end to our group year .
Our Group Guests for Lyzzic Hall this year are;-
Anne Whitehead, Helen Reed Nan Amor
Carol Moreton Viv Bayliffe Ann Sindle
Carried forward from last year plus,
Mark Powley Doreen Morrison
Finally, please find Jim and Anne's provisional programme for the groups trip to the Outer Hebrides, next May.
Numbers are going to be limited by the availability of accommodation on the islands, so you need to look at this, and express a serious interest A.S.A.P.
if there is anything - just ask.
