"Si fractum non sit, noli id reficere"
Greetings Cumbria Group,
So to summarise the last few weeks, with the proposed release of lockdown following on schedule, we managed to make the trip to Fort William, 16 folk headed North for a much needed TRing experience, and with the required Covid restrictions in place we made camp at Glen Nevis. Day one went swimmingly well, and day two started much the same, indeed it was teatime when disaster struck, and the fresh winds we had been coping with, turned into a severe gust, and swept everything on the field away, included our very substantial, professional gazebo, this with Peter Bonsall, Ken Wilson and Rex Harrison inside! Thank fully they were bruised and battered but Ok, things could have been so much worse. It is something like this that really focuses the mind! With no chance of enjoying group stuff, and the evening de-briefs etc., for the rest of the trip, some of us, left early, others stayed on to enjoy the area.
In contrast, the following weekend saw some of us enjoy our hotel based overnighter at Bellingham, in Northumberland. This turned out to be just stunning. Jim and Anne,
sorted us the Saturday run from Kendal to the hotel, via the North Pennines and with a picnic thrown in for good measure, camaraderie at the hotel, was as great as ever, and Sunday some headed North to enjoy Keilder whilst others under a time restriction headed South. Just a great, Tr'ing, Cumbria Group Event. The weather was stunning over the whole weekend, and I was left wondering why we don't make this a three day, two night annual CG event.
Finally worth pointing out that, both these Club approved events were enjoyed, whilst adhering to all the relevant Covid 19 restrictions, so it can be done!
...and to the next few weeks, and one that hopefully everyone will be able to enjoy.
Group Lunch at Crooklands hotel, WEDNESDAY June 23rd.
Peter Bonsall is arranging this one for us, and will be in touch with menu choices, I see this as a really great way for a group, 'Catch Up' and just to see how everyone is doing, so do your best to make this. email Peter with your menu choices, those that are not internet, phone me, and I'll pass on.
Into July, and we do not have much firmed up in the programme, well nothing really, likewise our first Sunday in August is also vacant, though the rest of the month is pretty heavy, with 13th/15th our joint IWE at Malvern, following weekend spares day at Telford, some of us are already booked for that (More Welcome) this is also Wigton motor Clubs Dalemain Show on the 22nd. Following W/E is Oulton Park, Gold Cup with possibility to attend Sunday, as in the past, or Monday, when TS2 will be there and the chance to drive the track, and of course the hotel based overnighter to celebrate 50 years of the register, is this weekend also. I'm sure you can still enjoy any of these events, so if you want more information, ask me, but do not leave this for long.
Looking further into the year, September is empty, now various folk have suggested things to do, most notably repeating the camping, because of what happened in May through to hiring a house for two or three days somewhere, and doing some self catering, and exploring a different area. Normally this would be for a business meet discussion, but that is not until November, so I'm asking for suggestions.
...and something to look forward too!
Following the disappointment of having to cancel our Outer Hebrides Expedition this year, and not to be thwarted, Jim McVey has started looking at 2022. He has secured accommodation, at reasonable cost for Stornoway in mid May, and has booked 6 double/Twin Rooms, so who wants to come?
Jim and Anne, and Doreen and Me are committed, that leaves four open to you all on a first come basis, there might be a possibility of others, but for now you all have the detail.
FINALLY, some general info;-
FOR SALE;- locally a TR4, as the ads used to say, 'House move forces sale' and in this case absolutely the case. In need of some cosmetics, but priced to sell!
Michael Reed, reports that he has some body and paintwork done at
Greta Bodyworks, Keswick, and was very impressed with both the work and their attitude to the job.
