EVENT Reports
Fry and Fly – 26 May 2024 – by Neil and Dale Endean
The day arrived for Bob and Ginny’s Fry and Fly I had both the TR and MX5 ready to go but decided to take the MX5 this time.
We started our run from home at 8:25am and took the route through Keynsham joining the A37 then used the trusted Sat Nav for the journey to Hartley’s Bistro arriving at 9:35am.
On arrival a few TRs and some non-TRs were already there, which made me feel less guilty for taking the MX5.
An excellent breakfast was soon ordered and consumed by all. Bob then went through the detailed route that Ginny and himself had prepared for us all to follow and soon after it was time for us all to be on our way.
As requested, we gave Bob and Ginny a 5-minute head start and left Harley’s on our way to Compton Abbas Airfield following the detailed route notes supplied.
The route was very enjoyable and varied and apart from a couple of minor deviations off route we soon arrived at the base of the zig-zag hill section. Here’s a challenge I thought as we followed Tony and Helen up through the bends in their TR4A, I only heard a couple of slowdowns from Dale and we arrived at the airfield shortly after parking in the paddock with the other TR Brunel group members.
The weather was much better than expected so we did see some aircraft arrive and depart during the day which was great to see.
We had arranged to meet up with some friends who live in Poole who we had not seen for some time. We had an excellent lunch and catch up in the restaurant and it was soon time to say our goodbyes and leave Compton Abbas. We saw the other members out of the paddock and left for home soon after ourselves. We arrived home at 17:00 after a good but wet journey home, both Dale and I would like to thank Bob and Ginny for a very enjoyable day.
Ps: For those interested in aviation Compton Abbas will be holding an airshow on the 10-11th August 2024 well worth a visit.
The Northwest Bristol Meet
Another very well attended morning and the organisers may have to limit the numbers turning up now, including one potential new Brunel member.
The Pageant of Transport on Weston Sea Front – 25/26 May 2024
This should have been held over the Easter weekend, but it had to be postponed due to damage to the lawns and was rescheduled to the May Bank Holiday where we already had the Fry and Fly event. So, a few of us went on the Saturday to join Somerset Triumphs.
Puxton and Lazy Monday – May Meetings
A big variety of cars at Lazy Monday again this year, but no TRs when I was there, but I did leave a bit early as the weather became rather inclement, although I did see a number of classics heading that way on my trip home.
