Dipped Head Light using light switch

Recommended Posts

It was looks as though it was scanned at low resolution - unless that is your copy-and-paste Phil. Where did you find the original ? TRA month and year?

The latching relay is a Durite item (0-728-02) but I seem to recall they changed the power connections at some point but didn't change the type number, and if you wire up a new one using the circuit diagram for an old one,  it damages the relay.    I think the old ones didn't care about polarity but the new ones MUST have +12 on 30 and 0V on S which is the opposite way to how it is shown in this circuit.

OK I will re-draw the circuit when I have a few moments  Phil - it is pretty straightforward.  The only thing to note is the rating of the diode which has to cope with the full main-beam current . As the author says if your car has relays doing the switching, a small diode will do but an unmodified car running halogens will need a hefty type such as a 15SQ045.

Yes that's it - I'd forgotten that one. Good find.

Re that note - no it won't work on positive-earth systems as drawn.

Hi All.

Please see below does anybody have the original version of this article I am struggling to read it especially the wiring diagrams.

Thanks Phil.

Looks like that article was scanned out of a copy of TR Action magazine technical article pages.

The article is from 2008 so that relay is the old type.   As I said, the circuit won't work with the relay available now unless you swap the connections for pins 30 and S .

Also there are better and cheaper options for the diode referenced - such as the one I noted above.
