I was fettling a non starting MGA this week where it's nigh impossible to access the points and suggested to the owner he convert to Pertronix, which I've been running for 20 years on my 3A. james Hi James, I had been supplied with a 43D electronic distributor when I built my car in 2020 and had never been happy because in order to stop it pinking under load I was having to run it greatly retarded. Just before christmas I was looking for an original 25D TR3/4 distributor and the prices being asked for the few I found were quite high, especially because they would have had to go for a full treatment by the Distributor Doctor before being fitted. I then came across Holden, part of the SNG group now, who had the correct P40795 25D distributor, that specifically stated all set up with the correct advance curves for Triumph TR3/4 range. Not cheap at £245 all in, but I bought it anyway. It came ready to fit, but of course on points. I would have taken the electronic module from the old dizzy, but being for a 45D it wouldn`t have fitted the 25D, and having 2 new sets of points and condensers I have decided to run it standard for now. It also gives me the opportunity of setting the ignition timing static, which I could never do with the electronic dizzy. I am a firm believer in electronic ignition, and had already converted the 45D in my Dolomite to electronic, so I now have another complete electronic 45D and a spare module for same. Thought I would try the 3a on points this summer and see how it goes before undoubtedly splashing out on another conversion unit for it. Ralph
james christie
Thanks for the explanation! Yes, the treatment by Martin Jay is costly, but it is really effective. I had mine totally redone last year. It transformed the car. james Edited February 9 by james christie
