Pist’n broke a video

Recommended Posts

A simple video, I’ve tried a voice over

with my piston mishap.

This a fantastic and interesting video Hamish!  It’s like getting to tag along with a proper racing team.  The voiceover works well too.  A failure like that would have laid me up for a long long time.  You’ll get that front runner fellow next season!

Dan

PS your title is funny too as I would be “pissed and broke” if that happened to me

They are very tough engines as you’ve discovered, I was running mine at far too high RPM as well before I had O/D and was getting some oil in the catch tank, though no real loss in performance, decided on a jump to 89mm and on strip down found every top ring broken!

Well done for getting that close to Len, he is a bit good

2nd to Len a few years running now. It’s like being in F1 in either the Lewis or max years !!

Think I’ll go vintage racing next year

These engines are pretty bulletproof. I broke the crank in mine in 1976. Still drove 10 miles home. Foot pressing lightly on the clutch to push the crank together. It broke across the rear web.

.......and because of a comment you made in 2013  I pursued new cranks and now they are on the shelves being sold.

Perhaps the attached image gains my entry to the Piston Broke Group.

Returning home from the Fintray Hillclimb, circa 1984, about ten miles from home I started to hear a 'tinkling' sound from the engine of my 3. A couple of days later I decided to investigate but the car would not start, in fact it was locked solid. After taking the head off it was discovered that No.2 piston was in bits and only after removing and dismantling the engine discovered that the liner was also in pieces, as well as a bent conrod. They are all part of my 'Chamber of Horrors'.
