Motorsport Mickey
Hamish, What revs are you limiting to ? Do you use "flash" limiting (ie hitting the limiter and changing gear ?) or do you hold it on the limiter ? Is this only on the 1 piston,? I'd crack test the lands on the others whilst you have it stripped down, given that the deck heights will be the same on all, why is this piston the only one to go ? When I've experienced lands collapsing it's been on 87mm cast pistons where ALL have experienced either "nipping" of the rings by collapsing lands or cracking showing on all 4 piston lands. I know the forged pistons are more expensive, but do you think they may pay off allowing higher rev limits to be held without the need for regular changing ? BRENDA1
Morning H. How did you know you had a damaged piston? Or were you doing a strip down to check the engine. If you need a hand re installing back in the car give me a call. Mike Redrose Group
Hamish
Thanks guys. I have commissioned the repairs as I’m only half competent with hammers and spanners i have a Rev limiter as a max revs safety mechanism it’s not used as a gear change indicator (that often) and revs not held there. i sensed a change at aintree ( for me a fast track with my gearing) i then had oil blow by. Without a significant pressure drop across the bores ?! Just finishing running in when weather suitable then good to go.
jerrytr5
Correction, "Spirit of the road" went to Larry, not myself. A clerical error. Jerry
