roy53
Has anyone fitted a strengthening to these like say an angle iron welded to the top front ? Yes i have a welded repaired one here that has survived but as the weak part of our diffs i wonder if we can improve these. Roy
ctc77965o
its usual to box - in the mounting pins to stop them tearing-out...be careful not to create a rust-trap by leaving vent/drain holes.. https://triumphspecialtuning.com/product/reinforcing-plate-kit-for-forward-differential-mounting-tr4a-irs-6/
jerrytr5
I don't think Roy is referring to chassis strengthening, but the diff front mounting flange cracking and tearing itself apart. See photo. Mine was too bad to repair so I bought a strengthened one from Revington - I don't have a photo though. Jerry

roy53
Jerry is spot on. I don't think mine would have lasted another minute as only 1/2 " of metal left hanging on. Roy
ctc77965o
Wow, thats ugly... time to fit the Nissan diff? https://www.goodparts.com/product-category/drive-train/differential-upgrade-kit-and-driveshafts/

There were a few extra bangs & rattles from the back end on my way to work one day. I think it must have sheared and then wedged itself into a new position. Having had TR's for 30 years at that point (2011) I had never heard of it as being a 'known' issue. If it is known, I'd say it must be pretty rare. No doubt the Nissan diff is a competent conversion Dave, but there is nothing wrong with the TR diff in general so a s/h mount will do for the next million miles I'm sure. Dave McDonald
Roy, I reinforced both sides of my diff front crossmember with triangular gussets underneath as photos. This was after a crack starting in one of mine. No problems since. Dave McD
