Paul Hogan
The planned 2025 Coast to Coast tour of the Isle of Wight has had to be cancelled due to the high cost of the ferry. Despite arranging a 15% discount on the crossing it still came in at a hefty £164.00 which now makes the trip unviable. So after doing all the research and booking the hotel and attractions I have had to abandon the idea. However, all is not lost as I have a plan B so if you were planning on coming on next year's Coast to Coast please keep those dates in May free. I will post more when I have a confirmation from the new hotel on the mainland. Hoges

harlequin
Hi Paul We are up for another one of your c2c trips! Can you keep us posted, George
Paul Hogan
The dates I have allocated are Sunday May 18th to Wednesday 21st. I don't envisaging changing these dates but if I do it would for a week earlier rather than later as hotel rates go up significantly. One of the problem we now have with hotel bookings is because a significant amount of hotel bed spaces have been taken over by the government to facilitate refugees. While many of these hotels are in the 3 star category, the withdrawal of 250,000 bed spaces this year has had a knock on effect on the rest of the sector. As usual when demand is high and supply is low , prices go up and in our case quite significantly. To give you an example of this the same hotel chain wanted to charge me £2000 for 24 rooms on the Sunday night but on the Monday and Tuesday that increased to £3000 per night. You can draw your own conclusions. Meanwhile, I now awaiting a quote from a hotel for my Plan B. However, to give you a clue as to the destination the tour will now be entitled "In Search of King Arthur!" Hoges.

Steve-B
Paul, really appreciate your work on this, and agree the uk.gov hotel fiasco + IoW crazy prices don't make for any fun! Having organised some events in my past like I said on the phone, happy to help you organise a different event.
Paul Hogan
Further to my previous messages, I've just had a quote come in from a hotel I was thinking of booking. We would have taken over the whole hotel but they wanted £400 per night for dinner B&B! That's £19,200 if we all stayed for three nights. Is it me or is just greed on hoteliers parts? Hoges. Rod1883
....perhaps the IOW wasn't so expensive, relatively, after all

I blame Brexit or Covid, it has to be one of them but that does seem a tad on the pricey side. When I go away for golf weekends they come in a lot cheaper than that and that is for a single room.
