I would like to get some parts from the USA, has anybody done this recently, and how much am I likely to have to pay duty wise, will it just be 20% of the parts value?

Any suggestions as to the best way to get them here would be appreciated.

Theoretically if you import goods from UK to Europe that have come from a third party country then duty AND VAT are due on some parts even if both have been acquitted in UK.

Thanks Brexit.

But as they say here ´Pas vu, pas pris'

= if you're not caught , then you don't have to pay.

Hello John,

This may help for the UK.

https://www.gov.uk/goods-sent-from-abroad/tax-and-duty

It seems a bit confusing to me, but I think it means that if the items are worth less then £135 then there is nothing to pay, either VAT or duty.

But then the figure of £39 comes in somewhere as far as VAT is concerned. (But not sure why...)

Charlie.

Hi John,

I think it depends on where you are getting the parts from and what their policy is, I recently tried to get some bits from Goodparts and they will not ship to the UK or EU anymore so I would have needed a freight forwarder which wasn't cheap but normally it's should be vat + carriage.

I've toyed with this company/website but not actually used it

I have used them several times for parts to France from professional sellers and also private sellers that don’t ship outside of the USA. The largest item was an overdrive unit for a big Healy so quite heavy. I found the charges reasonable and the service quite efficient . They have a shipping quote tool on their website

cheers

Had it confirmed from Goodparts that they are unable to ship to UK/EUROPE due to excessive paperwork and charges.

As Andy Hall mentioned we would need a freight forwarder or a company that would import parts.

Such a shame .

Try shipitto, I have used them several times, they give you an unique US mail address then process and bulk ship to destination, ie they wait till they have enough freight to say France then ship it by bulk carrier.

When you buy from the us you use your unique US mail address and can buy anything from anyone!

cheers

That's interesting Alan . Will look into it when needed.

I know Goodparts are keen to keep dealing with us , just a case of way to much admin

I was after new rear discs from Goodparts but ended up getting them from a company called Torqen who get parts shipped from the US every week, shipping was only £8.99.  We did discuss the possibility of getting good shipped to their place in the US and then getting them over on one of their shipments??

Might be a possible alternative
