Gentlemen,

I took a trip this morning to Moss in Bristol to buy some parts for my TR4 restoration. There were notices on the walls and counter that as from today they are closing all their branches, other than London, for counter and collection purposes. In future the staff at these branches will become telephone sales.

Do moss have the same expensive delivery charges for UK deliveries as they do for their European clients? That’s why I stopped using them and started using the TR shop in London for TR parts

cheers

I find Moss in Paris know a bit less about TRs than they think they do, the service is rapid, the packaging and postal charges outrageous. Going to a mail order arrangement won't change much there for me.

I have been experimenting with other suppliers - Datch, Betaset, Bastuck etc - with some appreciable success

Agree with the moss Paris experience, Have used Bastuck a few times the parts seem good quality, I generally ring their Paris office with orders, I have found betaset a bit expensive

cheers

I didn’t know that Bastuck had an office in Paris, although I see that they have an outfit/subsidiary in St Avold in the Moselle.

The few dealings I have had with them were always with the office in Deutschland.

Your observation on Betaset is interesting!

Moss Paris have gone down in my recommendations recently, none of the individual parts are labelled anymore, usually all in one bag, difficult when some parts are left and right handed, but the kit parts are labelled, they must come from the USA or UK.  Some of the prices now are really silly, I really don't see what exchange rate they use. They have always been very good at accepting parts back if not needed, but not sure now what will happen, haven't tried it yet.  They do seen to be using Chronopost, now which does come to me pretty quick.

Moss #£&*cked me around on an order of mine and I’ve used TR Shop with very friendly help, fast and very reasonable prices for shipping.

YMMV

Rimmer Bros can offer VAT-inclusive shipping to Europe from Lincoln UK. Either using the IOSS service which is duty-free and has no clearance charges for orders up to 150 Euros and for larger orders we have a GLS service where we charge upfront for the duties, customs clearance and VAT. I would be interested to know if any of you have tried either of these and if you have any feedback, good or bad.

Kind regards

I'm in the middle of restoring my TR3A. I've ordered from Moss several times. Once or twice in the UK, but there's always the problem with customs (Germany). Then I ordered three times from Paris, but it's ridiculously expensive there. Moss/Paris also demanded up to 90 euros for shipping (the package wasn't heavy and they could have packed it smaller). Even for small packages they charged 40 euros - never more!

Now I buy a lot of things from Rimmers and yes, I always use the VAT-inclusive service to Germany. But I have had different experiences. One time the order arrived after just 4 days, another time I waited up to 2 weeks. But that's not Rimmers' fault, it's the German customs. They've called me at 3 deliveries and demanded a German declaration of the items, which means they get stuck in customs for up to a week.

I prefer to shop directly in the store. :D
