Rate my plug colour

Recommended Posts

Hi

picture shows two plugs almost new with about 300 miles on them.

left is piston 6 right piston 1.   I guess 6 is kinda okay whilst 1 is too rich.

who would agree or give further comment ?

This is a carb engine?

One flat leaner on the front carb.  (1)

One flat richer on the rear carb (6)

Then try and check again.
Confirm there is oil in the dash pot dampers

One flat of the hexagon = 1/6 of a turn of the adjuster

Count how many flats so you can get back to the starting point.

CW enrichen, CCW lean. assuming you have adjustable needles and assuming the adjuster hasn't been backed all the way out already. Methinks I would turn CW to the stop, counting "flats". There is about 1 3/4 turn before disengagement. However!, the design of the manifold doesn't ensure even distribution of the mixture to the corresponding 3 cylinders of each carb. I would compare 1, 2, 3 to each other (kinda do the average of the 3) to 4, 5, 6 (average of those 3).
