What Happened to Jenolite

Recommended Posts

I wanted to buy a small bottle of Jenolite the other day.

So I googled Halfords but they had nothing.

I looked on Ebay and also nothing.

I then realised that I am looking for a yellow bottle.

It would appear that things have changed  it is now Gel or thick n' gloopy, giant buckets etc.

What happened  !!!!!

Roger,

Isn't Jenolite just phosphoric acid with a fancy name?

There was a discussion about phosphoric acid a while ago and I think the cheapest place to get it was from a farm supply shop.

Used in milking parlors I believe.

(Do they have milking parlors in Hayes?)

Charlie.

Thats actually called Milkstone remover, it will do pretty much the same job.

Phosphoric acid is added to lots of foods, such as drinks and jam, so much so it has an E-number, E338!   Hence, it's safe to use in milking machines.

Most notably Coke, where it's what gives it the 'bite', but even in Coke there's only 0.05% of the acid.   But that's  enough to make pennies gleam!

I seem to recall the surface has to be washed after Jenolite treatment - due to its hydrochloric acid content? Or am I misremebering...

Yes you are supposed to flush it off if you want to over paint.

Stuart,

There may be 0.05% of acid in Coke, which in one small 330mls can is less than 0.2mls!  Or, four drops.        The same can contains 39 GRAMS of sugar, when a teaspoon of sugar contains only 4 grams.

That's what rots your teeth!

John

Yes I do know that, the point I was making is Coke rots your teeth.
