Just been checking the car over before we go an a 11 day holiday and found that the brass tap is leaking (second tap I have had) so I would like to replace it with a blank and copper washer. Could someone tell me the thread size, it’s probably on the forum somewhere but I can’t find the link.

Why can’t our suppliers and the manufacturers of these brass taps get their act together and offer us something that doesn’t leak. I too have recently substituted mine with a set screw.
This leak problem has been known of, for years ! T’was the cause of my starter motor ending its life prematurely - see the thread on this subject elsewhere.

I did take mine to bits and tried lapping it with some paste - apparently without success.

Even originals werent that clever, I had to replace my original 4a one after a lot of years use.

A quick fix is to taper a piece of hardwood and then ram it in the hole.

When I had such a leak, Carl (at Revington) lapped the internals of the tap and made it coolant-tight.  I'm certain it was not the first time that Carl had done this!

Moss USA know of this issue and offer a ‘fix’

Recently I had to fit a block drain tap for someone.   Just stripped it and lapped the two parts together (body and levered plug) using very fine lapping paste.   Rinsed it all clean and Reassembled with touch of water pump grease to lubricate.   Works and seals fine.

Used to be a reasonable idea when owners used to run anti freeze only in winter and the block got a couple of flushing's a year whilst you did it, but most owners want fit and forget now.
