Overdrive again

Recommended Posts

Ok  150bhp 1972 CP

So, overdrive works  BUT pops out of O/D after you’ve lifted and as you reapply the throttle.

Also noticed when you lift the Rev counter needle reads lower (not in keeping with the revs). Obviously connected to the OD issue as the Speedo drive is located here.

Help greatly appreciated

Hi Lee,

also check the thick rubber gaiter around the gear stick - it may be being pushed by the gaiter.

Check the front and rear Engine/GB mounts for going soft.

Roger

It’s only the overdrive popping out, assume you’re thinking it’s the gear?

Is the oil level in the G/B OK ? My type A starts jumping out on full throttle if the oil level is low. The engine revs will drop as the O/D cuts in.

Yeah I think I’ll check the lever.
yeah I realise revs will drop to a point but the revs on the gauge slowly carry on dropping. (Not the actual revs)

The rev counter is driven from the distributor Lee - nothing to do with the gearbox or speedo drive.

That’s even more strange then.
