Gear selector rod interlock balls ????

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

 2 odd questions.

1 - the balls in the selector rod interlock are 3.8" dia   ( Moss # BLS112 )   Question  Have smaller diameter balls EVER been used.

2 - We have a selector rod top cover with NO core plugs in alignment with the interlock. Question - how was the interlock holes drilled for the balls and interlink.

Anything here? https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5c6dec53b10f25d4edf0b3f7/t/5d019590f90de40001aacd9b/1560384913595/Gearbox+Cover.pdf

I would expect the interlock balls to be big enough to fit in the corresponding counter-bored hole in the selector shaft to be flush.

The hole surely must be there somewhere.

Hi Pete,

the holes are there but do NOT allow the ball to retreat far enough to be flush foe the rod.

Hi Folks,

there is an answer.  The hole for machining the interlock holes in the webs between the rods does exist but it had a 1/2" ali plug inserted and then filed smooth.

So, the balls ARE 3/8 diameter (BLS112) and there are access holes to do the drilling from new.

Thanks for any suggestions

Roger
