Early ones were steel, swapped to plastic late TR4

Some powder coats can be done at lower temperatures but TBH even black cellulose will last for a lot of years as its not as if theres any wear on them.

I guess you're right. Not willing to risk destroying them. Certainly don't want plastic replacements.
