Crawfie
With the push on selling electric cars , I would imagine that the driving test will have to change for those unable , or want , a petrol / diesel vehicle ?? So if my grandkids in 20 or so years time wanted to drive the 6 , they wouldn’t have a clue how to drive it or wouldn’t be able to as they gave passed their test in a electric ?? RobH
Yes - since electric cars are essentially automatics. If you pass your test in an automatic you are not licensed to drive a manual car.
Hamish
Bit like now for those that have passed in an automatic. also more modern licences you can’t tow a trailer. Rob beat me to it
Crawfie
So….This is going to be an Interesting dilemma for the next generations . So if any of my grandkids wanted to drive my 6 , they would need to pass a manual test , but will that be around in 20 or so years time ??
RobH
Good question Crawfie - probably not. Certainly no driving schools will have manual cars and is the government likely to support such a specialist requirement which is counter to their drive(!) for electric cars only? RogerH
The Gov't would probably wash their hands of such grubby things and give the responsibility to clubs via the FBHVC Roger
RobH
Might be added to this I suppose: https://www.gov.uk/learning-to-drive-a-tractor-or-specialist-vehicle

Just a side point re this thread but in fact that ban on >750kg trailer towing by people without a B+E licence is about to change: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/new-rules-for-towing-a-trailer-or-caravan-with-a-car-from-autumn-2021 (Unfortunately the actual licensing change date has been put back but trailer tests have been stopped meanwhile, so some people have been left in limbo.)
