With the push on selling electric cars , I would imagine that the driving test will have to change for those unable , or want , a petrol / diesel vehicle ??

So if my grandkids in 20 or so years time  wanted to drive the 6 , they wouldn’t have a clue how to drive it or wouldn’t be able to as they gave passed their test in a electric ??

Yes - since electric cars are essentially automatics.  If you pass your test in an automatic you are not licensed to drive a manual car.

Bit like now for those that have passed in an automatic.
also more modern  licences you can’t tow a trailer.

So….This is going to be an Interesting dilemma for the next generations .
So  if any of my grandkids wanted to drive my 6 , they would need to pass a manual test , but will that be around in 20 or so years time ??

Good question Crawfie -  probably not. Certainly no driving schools will have manual cars and is the government likely to support such a specialist requirement which is counter to their drive(!) for electric cars only?

Just a side point re this thread but in fact that ban on >750kg trailer towing by people without a B+E licence is about to change:  https://www.gov.uk/guidance/new-rules-for-towing-a-trailer-or-caravan-with-a-car-from-autumn-2021

(Unfortunately the actual licensing change date has been put back but trailer tests have been stopped meanwhile, so some people have been left in limbo.)
