mr phil farnden LHD to RHD?

  • John Morrison changed the title to mr phil farnden LHD to RHD?

Hello Phil,

welcome to the forum,

I also have a 1960 TR3a that came from the states. I am not saying you will not find a RHD steering box, but they are hard to find. Far more LHD cars were made than RHD, and the survival rate of the LHD cars is better.  You could try phoning round all the TR specialists, place a wanted ad on here, and hope!

I converted mine with a  conversion using a modified TR7 rack, and I am happy with the results, light steering, and seems to track well even on full lock with no tyre squeel, and there are ways of keeping the original wheel and horn push, although it does rotate with the wheel rather than being fixed.

Good luck with your search.

Ralph

Hi Phil,
i too imported a LHD from the US and after considerable deliberation decided to stick with the steering box rather than convert to R&P; mainly for the reasons you gave of wanting to keep the horn and indicator on the steering wheel.
I found the RHD steering box and a RHD dashboard by contacting dealers. They do exist. Good luck with it.

Hey Phil.

you got to be impressed with the response?

Where abouts are you?

If you are getting stuck into a sidescreen car  - big time, and it sounds as if you are, then you should really look at getting a long to your local Group and also joining the 'TR Register'

Phil

Welcome to hours of fun with a TR working on them and driving.

You will also need an accelerator pedal and linkage.

They are fairly easy to copy and fabricate  if you cant get one from other sources.

Just goes to show, there are more RHD boxes out there than I would have thought.
