Where did I put my spectacles...?

Recommended Posts

Opened the bonnet this morning to do valve clearances using the excellent Macy's Garage article, to find something interesting - see pic. I did wonder where they'd got to. Been there since Sunday, jammed between rocker cover and inlet manifold. Imagine the racket/damage they would have caused if...

Now where did I put my spectacles...?

"Where's the other one though?"

That one is in my toolbox, it's the one I was using to adjust bonnet bumpers

Some years ago after driving about 100 km I heared a quiet „pling“ on the road coming from down under the car,

as you may know it from a 11 mm ring spanner falling on the road, down from the bleeding nipple of the clutch master.

I stopped, walked back, and guess what I found on the road?

On a journey up the M6 I heard a ping tinkle - silence.  The car appeared to be happy.

We stopped a couple of times  before landing in the Lake District.

The following day the starter motor didn't want to play ball. The front bush had dropped out and the armature was flopping about.

When I got home I went to Moss to buy a new bush.  'Ah ha' said the counter man ' you've lost the bush.  'No I haven't. I know exactly where it is - centre reservation M6 just North of the RAC building.'

I acquired a nice Bluepoint hook when I topped up my daughters Volvo's windscreen washer.

They (Volvo) had sent out mechanics to fix a battery issue on her 5 month old mild hybrid a few weeks ago. Apparently a known fault so why they didn't call hers in when they new it needed replacing before she konked out I don't know.

A few years ago I decided to adjust the handbrake before an MOT.

it passed with no advisories.

Later I couldn’t find my expensive inspection lamp and searched everywhere before remembering that I used it when adjusting the handbrake.

a quick search, and there it was jammed in the suspension!!!

case cracked - but still works!!!

"and there it was jammed in the suspension!!!"

Which truly shows the worth of submitting our cars for a MOT by a specialist expert like a garage who gets paid for doing it and checking for anamolies in the vehicle that a fresh pair of eyes can pick up...not !

When I removed the wheel from my newly acquired TR4 I found a spanner still located on the bleed nipple. It had stayed in place for at least the 140 mile journey back to North Devon and possibly a lot longer.

I have a rather nice US mfct 1/4-5/16 af ring spanner, made by Plumb that I retrieved in the 1970’s from the under floor area of a 707 rear freight bay. The aircraft had only recently been purchased/returned from a full overhaul in the Far East.
