elclem1
Please help, On starting the car it goes straight to 3,000 rpm checked the usual stuff, nothing, MU?
stuart
Disconnect all the throttle links at the inlets and make sure they all shut properly as its an air issue not fuel.Check for manifold fit to head as well Stuart.
Nigel Triumph
Duplicating Stuart's excellent advice to some extent... most likely it's due to an air leak or sticking linkage. I would start by checking carefully for either sticking throttle spindle(s) or fast idle cam. Having ruled those out, next most likely culprit is an air leak downstream from the throttle butterflies. Look at the condition of the rubber balance pipes between throttle bodies, the joints throttle bodies to manifold and manifold to cylinder head, plus vacuum pipes to servo and MU. If all okay there, consider servo diaphragm leak... does the servo hold vacuum after the engine is and hiss when the brake pedal is pressed? Or possibly leaking MU diaphragm. nigel
Mike C
Are the throttles closing fully- I had the linkage stick once on a heater hose. If you have a vacuum gauge check the vacuum at the brake servo hose- my engine needs 10 inches Hg there to idle.
elclem1
Hi all thanks for the replies, it was a sticking throttle that remained open when it should have been closed! As suggested, a small adjustment was required and hey presto! Back to normal. Panic over thanks everyone for their quick suggestions.
