UJ removal tool...?

Recommended Posts

Hi Chaps, I was reading posts on the forum a couple of years ago, regarding propshafts, drive shafts, & UJs, etc. Somebody had recomended a tool which made extracting UJs quite straight forward, which is something I'd be interested in purchasing. However, after much searching on the forum, I can't find it anywhere; does anyone have any ideas...?

Cheers,

Paul.

Yes I bought one earlier in the year, worked well removing the uj's still tricky putting them back in and lining it up OK though. I can post a link when I find where I got it from.

Here you go.

Sorry just spotted it's not available. You should be able to find something similar though.

DHA Heavy Duty Ball Joint Press Kit & U Joint Removal Tool with 4x4 Adapters for Most 2WD and 4WD Cars and Light Trucks https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B088GY2VTS/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_6APJBX1MAF63MXK0XVW7?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I picked up one of these

https://www.amazon.co.uk/cowlboy-Pullers-Universal-U-Joint-Puller/dp/B07VL11YPQ/ref=sr_1_199?dchild=1&keywords=Universal+joint+press&qid=1631999079&sr=8-199

It's a well made bit of kit but unfortunately is just a bit to big for the joints on a TR. I have been on the lookout for a smaller version but no luck so far

With this tool you can't press the caps in?

My recommendation is to buy a 1 or 2 to lever press (arbor press) instead.

If you own one yor will see for how much different jobs this will be very usefull.

With the uj tool you can only do one single thing, and this not even for all sizes of u joints

Ciao, Marco

Yes you can but it's more tricky than with a press.

I use this

https://www.powertoolsdirect.com/clarke-csa10bb-10-tonne-hydraulic-bench-press-without-kit?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI153znu6N8wIVhu3tCh0XMAxbEAQYAyABEgJNCvD_BwE

One of the most useful tools I have even though it is expensive and I use it for loads of things. Just take care on alignment.
