Adrian Fuller
Morning all, a bit of a random question. I am getting ready to paint the engine and am using tractol high buid primer and tractol black enamel, my question is should I mask off the engine number (see photo) as I could imagine that when painted it may be difficult to see. Please let me know your thoughts. Many thanks
stuart
Up to you unless you want to show it off, TBH Paint only is fine for a block. Stuart.
Drewmotty
I only paint the rough cast areas and leave the machined areas. A wipe of thin oil will keep rust at bay until the engine bay fumes kick in.
markaluge
I didn’t paint over the machined areas so tat the engine number remained easy to read.
DavidBee
Repainting engine numbers or masking them off? Mine was painted over, but for a different reason. The block is a TR4 block connected to an all-synchro TR4 gearbox. I guessed that when I scraped off the paint what I would find wouldn't be the original TS commission number. And sure enough, CT 2 appeared, like on a scratch card. The rest of the serial was sanded off. My guess is that this was done by the engine builders, when that replacement engine was assembled back in the early 1990s. I have nothing to hide. It's part of the car's restoration history.
