Hi folks!

I'm a brand new member and thrilled to be here.

I wanted to take some time to introduce my first major automotive project - swapping BMW's famous N54 twin turbo motor into my 1974 TR6.

Of course, some inspiration for this project comes from MileMarker60's S50 swap. I fell in love with that car several years ago and bought myself my TR6 as a high school graduation gift as a result.

I know there are many folks on forums across the automotive industries that start project threads and never actually get around to doing anything, but I assure you this is not the case for me at all. I have already bought a wrecked 2009 335i as the donor, and for now just waiting on some space in my garage to get started!

I will also be creating a similar build thread here over on E90post to tap into the N54 expertise they have to offer, while here my plan is to focus more on the TR aspects of the project like chassis and necessary body modifications. I also have an instagram account (@grahambuildsthings) where I will be posting updates as well.

That's all I have to say for now! Look out for updates to this thread in about a month's time (I hope).

I am happy to discuss this project with any of yall, please feel free to post questions or offer some advise for someone taking on a rather large project for the first time.

Cheers!

Hi folks,

Thought this was a good time to provide an update.

I cleared out a small space in the shop for the 4 vehicles I'll be using for this project and of course, space to move around in.

Up front is the project itself, the 1974 TR6. Next to it is my 2009 bone stock, auto 335xi, and in back and buried is my 2005 M3.

I have also managed to source the 6 speed, RWD manual trans from this 2007 335i, FBO and JB4 tube.

I have a lot of chassis and body work to do on the TR, so while I am working on that, I will also be working on a manual to auto xdrive swap for the '07 using parts from the '09. That should give me a running and driving 335i that I'll be able to enjoy and get a feel for the engine I'll be running in the TR6.

(and I suppose become a proper member of the E90 club!)

That's all I have for yall for now.
Next steps are to take the TR6 body off the chassis and begin work on strengthening that while I work on transmission swap in the '07 335i.

Cheers!

Hey Teddy - say hi to Dallas for me, have not been there for a few years now. - actually it was mainly Plano I visited...

I have a TR6 with the M50 2.5 engine onto the matching 5 speed manual gearbox.

Its a hoot!

Feel free to ask any questions, I bought the car like this, but happy to take any pics that would help you on the way.
