1973 TR6 alternator - 4 wire configuration

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I am fairly new to the TR6 world so please forgive if this is a ridiculous question.

I recently replaced the alternator in my 1973 “Britney” after a blinking alternator light at low rpms signaled a problem with it. The trickiest part of the swap was figuring out the wiring, because I had a 4 wire set up, not the usual early 5 or later 3. Got it sorted, but I’m wondering if there is any value in my old alternator.  I’ve gathered that this 4 wire must have been used for a bit in 73.  Is it worth refurbishing?  If not for me, then for anyone?  I’m not going for originality with my car.  Does anyone care about this degree of originality or have I been watching too many car restoration shows on tv?  It’s not about monetary value.  I just don’t want to throw out something that I shouldn’t.

Thanks everyone

Michelle

It may probably be an original AC Delco  Remy unit.   It so has value as it fits original MG BGT V8 cars.
