Hub Extractor M86A for TR3A/TR4

Recommended Posts

When you say oil seal on back axle are the symptoms oil all over the brake shoes?

If so it is more than likely the tube seal and no extractor is required.

You will also want to consider fitting Speedisleeve to the half shaft seal area.

I have a sykes pickavant hydraulic 15mt  hub puller  and i'm in wallingford  if the hubs haven't been off for a while   you may even struggle with that. I ended cutting   one of the hubs off.  I had tried pressing it off with a 100 mt brake press  and that sucker wouldn't shift , once i had cut a slot  in the hub  it came off with a few hits

cheers

If you can't find one locally you can make an alternative puller for not much money that I found to work even better. The treads on the hub, however, need to be in decent condition.

Check it out here:  https://www.britishcarforum.com/community/threads/a-simple-solution-for-separating-axle-and-hub.107877/page-2#post-1150827

Bob:

If you go to the first page in the link I posted there is a parts list, which I reproduce here:

Ok, this is how I did it, The parts you need are as follows

1 x Grade 2H steel nut, 1-7/8" x 8 tpi, McMaster-Carr # 90521A037 $10.59
1 x Grade 5 steel bolt, 1-1/2" x 6 tpi, 5" long McMaster-Carr # 91283A452 $12.43
1 x Grade 8 steel nut, 1-1/2" x 6 tpi, McMaster-Carr # 90499A041 $4.43
1 x Multipurpose 110 copper bar 1/4" x 1-1/2" x 6" McMaster-Carr # 8964K851 $11.55

Center the 2 nuts on top of each other and weld them together, I held them together with the bolt during the weld. I had the heat on the mig turned way up and the nut assy took about 45min to cool off enough to move but still to hot to handle by hand.

You can find the parts on the McMaster Carr site, one example:  https://www.mcmaster.com/catalog/127/3447/

Unfortunately, it appears that they do not ship to the UK, but Dr. Google found this: https://www.raptorsupplies.com/b/mcmaster-carr-europe-uk-distributor

I had the local welding shop do mine.
