Inspection Criteria for Crankshaft and Camshaft Sprockets

Recommended Posts

Hi Steve,

welcome to the forum

How many miles has the engine done with these sprockets?

The sprockets can wear. The cam will take twice the time as the crank sprocket.

Seeing the wear isn't the easiest thing. If you look at the profile of new tooth it isn't just a semi-circle but towards the tooth tip the circle flares towards the tip.

When it wears this flaring will reduce and become a wider semi-circle.

If in doubt change them - not that expensive.   But they should last 2 or 3   100,000 miles

Roger
