size / typ of narrow water pump belt

Recommended Posts

Hi John,

thank you very much, but I'm asking for the typ of belt.

Do they use a 13, also know as "A". It's toothed, so it must be a AX. Z or ZX could be too weak?

Cheers, Marco

In 1998, I fitted pulleys from Revington and have an alternator.

I use a Unipart GCB10963, which is narrow and notched (I wouldn't call it toothed).  I believe that the code means it is 10mm x 963mm.

Hi John, yes this helps,

so it must be a "10 - toothed", called 10X or ZX, 6 mm high.

This belt would fit through my "extra slim" fan extension and the steering rack after I lowered the engine about 5-6 mm for the MX-5 gearbox.

Before I lowered the engine also the standard 20 fitted through, in use on my TR4A, now not even when I lift the engine and gearbox.

I have different options now for the case of a failed fan belt:

1) fit an electric fan - no way, not relaiable from what I read on different forums!

2) go on driving my Flennor 20X900 without worry and  accept fitting a new belt by taking fan and extension off?

3) fit a narrow belt set for a better feeling for the case of a failture?

4) buy and test a "17" link belt, what is in my mind since some time?

Ciao, Marco

Or fit a spare belt in the workshop while its easy to do and cable tie it back out of the way round the front of the engine. This was usual practice many years ago for sidescreen cars.

One more very good option - and would cost me nothing, only the work.

But I'm a bit lazzy from working on the car and ordered a link belt to carry in the boot and bring down my worries.

This is shure: always in the car I will never need it! But perhaps I could help a TR friend in his distress and benefit from his experience

Hi,

while we have been out for a week the new link belt arrived from the UK.

It's not a C/20 buta B/17 type but that also fits the original pulleys.

I always had doubts to buy one because its price is about 100 Euro/m, until I found this lovely offer at the UK for less than 10 GBP/m

(inkl. shipping an a m noticable donation to the ideas of the british voters 22 Euro).

The qualit is very high, if all goes like I think I never need it - but feel better with it in my boot.

Ciao, Marco

Who in the uk does that Fenner belting at such a good price?    I use it to drive my lathe and drilling machine.

Remember to fit it the right way round as it is uni directional

Cheers

Yes, it's a "Fenner".

Yes, it is to run only one direktion, marked with arrows on the belt, this is the case on your TRs.

For those who not have seen this before here is s video.

Hi Bob,

I don't know what the link belt does when you run your lathe reverse

I found it at eBay

Guess the guy does not know what he sells or has a 100 m drum...or that else could be the reason...

He sells nothing else, only this belt.....

Ciao, Marco

Original belt on lathe is of similar construction, only uses loose metal rivets to hold the sections together. Running in reverse does not seem to bother it.

Bob.

This site :

http://www.lathes.co.uk/

sells belts of all sorts, (but not as cheap as £10.00 mtr !)

Click on “Belts” at the top of the page.

It’s also a hive of information on all sorts of machine tools.

Just scroll down the home page to see their list.

My Boxford has one power twist drive belt that came from Lathes.co.uk.   Easier to fit than the continuous belt it had originally.
