TR Debutant
Looking at purchasing my first TR2. May ultimately consider using it in some historic rallies. One I am looking at has a conversion to a TR6 manual gearbox with overdrive, professionally fitted by TR specialist. Obviously not in line with original spec, then neither is the rack and pinion conversion, but does this compromise the original drive too much? Can the car cope with the conversion in other respects? Thoughts appreciated. Thank you
BlueTR3A-5EKT
TR6 gearbox gives the benefit of synchromesh on first gear. Ratios are fine. The first gear ratio being slightly higher than original. Overdrive is a good option. Peter W
ianc
What axle do you have? If it's the original (Lockheed), it's worth considering a change to the later (Girling), which doesn't wet its brakes and is much stronger. What about brakes? Easy to convert to front discs. A TR without overdrive is not a true TR - just my opinion, but my first TR was a TR2 without overdrive (and with drum brakes - very scary!), which is why my TRs since then have had overdrive and disc brakes. Hamish
drive wise its a good option but Ian makes a good point on axle strength especially if its had or will have other upgrades for rallying

Ian Cornish Thanks Ian. I know it had a replacement diff in the past, I’ll check though on that and the brakes, was forgetting we didn’t go to disks until the TR3 arrived.
