Flexibel coupling/ steering column

Recommended Posts

Hi Al,

Yesterday some work to the steering column...dismantling no problem.

But to put the flexible coupling in place was a nightmare..... one bolt came in very easy number two was a struggle...until I had an idea to taper the end of the bolt.

Then it was done, easily.

Just a question: On what site is the indicator release on the steering column positioned, switch side (pic) or against?

Marcel.

Indicator side. The operating 'bump' sits in the middle of the switch sprung 'arms'. I'm sure there must be a more accurate descriptive term.

For the steering column flexible, put a jubilee clip around before removal.

The operating bump could be termed a 'cam'

I fit my rubber UJ's slightly differently

Fit on bolt and then position it to the 6-o-clock position

Insert the next bolt at 12-o-clock and using a 1/4" drive raise the head of the bolt, engage the thread and rotate the wrench.

Repeat for the next two bolts

Hi Roger,

this was also the way I did it before I found out about the pliers.

It is always a hudge joy to work with this Knipex pliers.

Ciao, Marco
