Eddie Trickett
I am about to try and fit my soft top. It came with the car and seems to be a canvas type material. Will it be double duck? It came from John Skinner in 1983, cost £55. Does the same requirement for warm conditions apply to this material? There seems to be plenty of instructions/ videos on the Internet. Has anyone got any special tips? Thanks Eddie
stuart
If it is double duck then heat wont really make that much difference to its stretch, you`ll just have to pull it tight before glueing, one good thing is that it was made back then so should be well made. Nigel Triumph
The windows will still be made from vinyl and will benefit from being warm, if only for any storage creases to come out. Nigel
aardvark
Why don’t you speak to Skinners as they will know what materials they were using back then.
Eddie Trickett
Thanks again everyone and yes I will contact Skinners. It would have been Jonathan Skinners dad back in 1983. The original invoice also included leather wheel arch covers which were £11.75 + VAT (15% in those days). Unfortunately they didn't come with the car so purchased a new set from Skinners this year. They were £135, so about 10x the price of 38 years ago. If I was still working my salary wouldn't have been 10x what it was in 83. thanks Eddie
