I need to replace some blackout blinds. They are only 3 years old and have broken cords, frayed edges and the brackets are not secure enough. They were from a blind store on eBay. How can I find a quality blind with a proper guarantee. The location is London so it would be supply only.

How do I know if any of the many eBay sellers are high quality and long lasting ?

TR forum is a long shot but I had success with my glue question.

Thanks Richard & B

I thought the days of "Put that light out Napoleon" were over ?

If you lived where we live you would understand the problem. I am often woken several times during the night by a neighbours Arc/Security light illuminating my bedroom. I have asked them nicely to angle it away from my bedroom window but it is so large and bright the angle seems to make no difference, it is the foxes that cause the problem not intruders.

I spent several years of my life living with a lady who made curtains for the mega wealthy. I got the job of fitting them, along with all other sorts of “window treatments” as they were referred to.

When it came to blinds we always specified “Silent Gliss”. Partly because they were expensive and I could make a good mark-up supplying them but mainly because the clients, as well as being mega wealthy, were mega fussy. The blinds had to work and they had to last.

If you go to the Silent Gliss website I think you should be able to find a stockist near where ever you are.

Worth getting a quote if nothing else.

I think a lot of the eBay and local newspaper advertised ones are knocked out in some railway arch somewhere. I also used to do the odd fitting for a local man who supplied the lower priced blinds. He always used to say:

“Smash them up into the ceiling and run away quickly before they jam up and fall down.”

I am very keen on the IKea option but I need to know how to reduce the size without ending up with frayed edges in six months. Has anyone actually bought and modified one of these.

Thanks

Could use an air rifle !!

You could choose target ....the light  or the foxes . No I’m not serious ....or am I !!

Yes I have thought about that and I do have my dads air rifle but I still have to live here amongst these new order inconsiderate people.
Why they are so security conscious is anyone’s guess, we have lived here for 45 years with no security problems at all.

Hi Richard

We use a bespoke blind supplier / fitter in our town called Blind Design, and no doubt you have a similar specialist in your town.

The problem with some stores like Dunelm is they are often cheaply made and even worse Ill-fitting, and when the glue comes unstuck and the blind parts company with the rail after around 3 weeks all you’re get is the usual ‘ sorry about that’ at the customer service and a refund, leaving you none the wiser!

A bespoke fitter will measure for correct fitment and you’re more likely get better after-sales service if you do get a problem.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hilary's Blinds, made to measure and they come and fit them, and if they do fall down the missus has someone to complain about, although to be fair to Hilar's, they never have fallen down!, cheers, Andrew
