DSJ666 Posted May 4, 2021 Report Share Posted May 4, 2021 Hi All, I have a issue with my ammeter needle flicking wildly all over the place. It doesn't happen all the time and is often steady and reading correctly and I'm still trying to find some logic behind it's flicking, ie engine speed, electrical load etc. I'm guessing it is a voltage regulator/control box issue although the battery stays charged so it must be working to some extent. So just wondering if anyone has any tips as what might be the issue. (Its a RB106 voltage regulator on a TR4A) Thanks. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Richardtr3a Posted May 5, 2021 Report Share Posted May 5, 2021 In the old days Lucas claimed that they made £5.00 every time an owner opened the RB106. It is very tricky to clean the points and leave them flat and dust free and parallel The new ones are often made in India and they use reclaimed copper which has a very short life. Cox Auto Electrical, 10 Abeles Way, Atherstone, CV9 2QZ 01827 712097, has a semi retired specialist who can service the original and leave it as new. I hope that he is still there. It does take a while as well because he does not work a full 5 day week. I became a bit obsessive about the RB 106 and had half a dozen serviced by Cox, and now stored in sealed plastic bags in the garage. They are all spade terminals If you need a spare send me a pm and we can work it out. They all have an identification number and sometimes a date.
