Water pump bypass screw fittings

Recommended Posts

I have an idea brewing about a water / oil cooler heat exchanger.

has anyone tapped these orifices if so what size ?

to fit this barbed type fitting ?

Peter, did I read somewhere that you and your brother had threaded these in years gone by ?

Good to see that there is someone else who has not gone away for the weekend. It has been very quiet on here lately. Can you utilise the already tapped fitting for the heater circuit ?, although I am not sure of the direction of water circulation there.

I have been outside with the TR on the 2 post lift changing the exhaust downpipe gasket that was blowing, and re-sealing the exhaust joints. Dodging rain showers.

No never done that.

Someone told me the hole accepted a 1/4 BSP thread, the tapping hole for which is 11.8mm.  You’d have to measure.

I would expect the heater return pipe would provide easy water flow and return for a Modine oil cooler setup.

The threads in the pump housing and in the fitting have different diameter and tpi

- in the housing tapered 18 tpi, perhaps 3/8-18 NPT, no fit with 3/8-19 BSP

- in the fitting 16 tpi x di = about 17.1 mm, perhaps 3/4"-16 UNF, as Niel points out, but this is di = 17.5 mm

Dimensions picked up on 2 housings with wide bypass (TR3-4),

on 2 fittings but without any nut for the fittings, sadly I have no bolt 3/4-16 UNF to test for you

Thanks for your help.
I have ordered a selection of fittings to experiment with.
