... and finally

Recommended Posts

...after nearly 4 years in my ownership and in my shed and after 42 years off the road TFD499G made it out for drive it day. There are still a few things to sort, such as black sills and fitting the chrome strips, and much tweaking I imagine. Got my first puncture within 5 miles of leaving home! Car ran well, sounded good and got home safely.

Have attached a few pics for those interested.

Many thanks to all those who have helped me on the forum.

All the best,

Tim

Many thanks for your approving comments. To do a full restoration has always been an ambition of mine and one now completed. I do have to thank my wife who without my knowledge persuaded the PO to sell the car, when for many years he had resisted.

I was very lucky that the car was not in bad condition considering its 40 year hibernation. Rust on the rear outer wings in all the usual places, bit of rust in the chassis, fitted with carburettors and a seized engine.

I promise it will be driven all year round, always the intention.

Many thanks,

Tim

Hi Tim,

Your car looks fantastic! What a great achievement. Now with the summer approaching you can enjoy driving it. Just one question... What have you used on the rear screen frame to protect the paint where the rear metal roof fixings are? My TR5 is actually the same colour and has the surrey top, but the paint is getting damaged at the fixing points.

Regards,

Denis

Looks great Tim. Just a question-the brake fluid looks Pink? is that right or just a trick of the light.

Paul

I think its Automec silicone brake fluid, which is purple , the white triangle logo label is theirs i think?

Yes, Automec SBF, a nice shade of purple to match the mixed berry washer fluid from Halfords!

Cheers

Well done Tim.

I'm sure it makes all the hard work and times of feeling is this going to work out worthwhile!

Full tank, top down, dark glasses on and enjoy her.
