PeteT Posted April 22, 2021 Report Share Posted April 22, 2021 Hi venerable ones, I sold some quite rare early TR2 parts to a chap recently and during the conversation he said he would be exporting them to Shrilanka where he was rebuilding his 2. He told me there were no less than ten TR2s there and some 3s. Apparently left over from when it was a colony. Wonder if the register is aware? My granddaughter tells me it’s not called Shrilanka any more but I can’t keep up with the changes. Later, in 7 September 1978, it was changed to the "Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka". I don't believe it has changed since then. Rgds Ian Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Yep, and we also stayed at the Tea Factory Hotel, Nuwara Eliya is a great place. We also took a tour of the tea manufacturing plant, very basic engineering.............. Sri Lanka was a great holiday, but we hired a car and driver - the roads and driving standards are something else and definitely not for the faint hearted. I like the Ford Escort with the cut off roof. I have visited Pakistan, mainly around Karachi albeit some 30 years ago, where there were also many old British cars. Due to the import restrictions/duties and thanks to the resourceful Pakistanis, many are now powered by Japanese engines and transmissions. james Quote Link to post Share on other sites
Ecosse Posted April 22, 2021 Report Share Posted April 22, 2021 Hello All, Attached are a couple of images of a brochure I received from the Ceylon embassy in 1970 when a chum and I were planning to drive from Scotland to Sydney in my Mk1. Triumph 2000. Unfortunately we never made the trip, the problem being getting the car into Iran as a surety of 2.5 times the new value of the car was required which would only have been refunded when the car returned to its country of origin. Another snag was that Syria and Afghanistan suggested that a carrying a firearm would have been worth considering. Rgds Ian Before we took over & called it Ceylon the island was call "Lanka" The "Sri" was added when we moved out. "Sri" means beautiful. Thanks Bob It looks like they have covered the brake and clutch reservoirs, probably local requirements at the time. Tony_C Posted April 23, 2021 Report Share Posted April 23, 2021 My car (according to Bill Piggot many years ago) was exported when new to Ceylon, as it was in those days), the ‘L’ prefix registration was from there.... from the fair few times I have visited, no ideas why the local owner specified to have a heater fitted?.....
