1975 Tr6 250 knock
Have a 75 Triumph TR6 with 75,000 original miles ran it low 1 time on oil. Towed car home changed rod bearings with original size. Engine runs but knocks im now thinking on doing the main bearings. Rod bearings were worn out but no apparent damage to conecting rods. Im praying the crank is still in good shape and that doing the crank bearings will be enough. Before the car ran beautiful and was not over heated. What would you do! barkerwilliams
But a £6 Engineering Stethoscope off Ebay and find out where the knock is actually coming from otherwise you are spending time and money just on a hunch. Have you changed the main bearings, and importantly whilst you are in the sump checked the crankshaft end float? Alan
Mike C
Is the oil pressure now OK? Was there much bearing metal in the sump? Can you rock the crankshaft back and forth by hand and feel/hear the knock? Feel any movement in the crankshaft fore and aft? You replaced the big end bearings with original size- are you sure the ones you removed were original size? After looking at the above, unless I was convinced the crankshaft bearings were OK , I'd at least pull the caps off and have a look at them.
harlequin
Disconnect the plug leads one by one with the engine running starting with number 6, if the knocking stops its a big end. George Edited April 6, 2021 by harlequin
Peter Cobbold
did it knock before you changed the bearings? do you have photos of the old shells?
