Mark666
Hi just looking at changing the rear springs on my 62 tr4 and removed the lever arm dampers considering having them refurbished but they seem quite stiff to move around took quite a bit of effort I’m not sure how stiff the dampening should be should you be able to move by hand or put in vice and need a bar to move them just not sure if they are ok or not hope this makes sense
Geko
You should be able to move the damper arm by hand without any other leverage.

TR4Tony VC
You should just be able to do this on a good pair of single piston DAS9 shocks. If you can do it easily the seals need to replaced and new oil as a minimum. Worth also bearing in mind that if they are too stiff, the piston could be partially seized. Take the tops off and see what colour the oil is. If it’s not clear or opaque brown or greyish, you need to have them properly reconditioned. regards Tony
Mark666
Thank you for replies after reading comments they should be ok stiff to move but move smoothly just reading the horror stories about the front spring hanger bolt now had a quick look today looks like it’s previously been welded so might send to tr specialist to get them changed was looking forward to doing it but don’t want to get out my depth

The tube it sits in is welded into the chassis frame, your not confusing this are you? FWIW those pins can be extremely difficult to get out to the extent that sometimes its easier to lift the rear body to change the spring or its eye bush. Stuart. MKTR
If you have gone to the point of removing the dampers you might as well get them refurbished for long term peace of mind? Mark
