TR4 Wipers, direction of travel

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I'm doing something stupid here, but can't figure out what

The wipers on our TR4, LHD, started going very slowly. Took the motor and rack out and after several liberal doses of WD40 managed to free up the wheelboxes.

There is a cranked arm, on the passenger side, straight on the drivers side

As a precautionary measure I've fitted a recon motor to the car

All seemed fine, got the rack back in and the wheelboxes moved fine, refitted the motor and all was still good. Then noted that the spindles were rotating in a clockwise direction, when stopped, they went anticlockwise to park. Thats would be fine on a rhd car but not a lhd version as the arms initially get pushed downwards into the scuttle.

I have tried reversing the two feed wires to get a different rotation but the motor is very slow and doesnt self park.

Any ideas, I could fork out for a set of rhd arms but the ones one the car are new so that seems a pity/waste of money, if te solution is simple!

Thanks in advance.

Adam

The motor just goes round, so rotation direction won't make any difference.

Sounds like you have refitted the wheelboxes upside down.

That shouldn't make any difference.

Hi Adam,

The blades simply go back and forth (if they go slow they may come fifth).

When parking they simply complete the remains of a cycle and then stop

They should not reverse.  UNLESS you have the wrong motor.

You should have a DR3A single speed with two wires - Green (power) Black/Green to the switch and the body is earthed.

The park position is governed by the dome on of of the motor - this rotates to give you the correct position.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the suggestions.

As always, my ex-colleague Peter W had the answer at his finger tips.

Rotate the top cover of the motor thru 180 degrees and  the spindles operate in the required direction and self park where wanted.

What this man doesn't know about TR's eludes me!!!

Thanks Peter
