Mike Watson Smith
I am thinking about bringing back a LHD TR8 to the UK and converting it to RHD. Has anyone ever done that? Would be interested to hear of opinions on the feasibility/experiences of doing it, assuming I can find the parts.... Thanks
TR8IAN
I have a LHD - RHD conversion which was carried out by the factory (very badly!) . It is certainly do-able you will obviously need to change out the dash board and the metal supporting brackets under. The only difficult job would be to change over where the steering column drops through the bulkhead, other than that the battery mount shelf / washer bottle which still remains under the bonnet will need removing and a new one putting on the other side. British Leyland managed to pull my wiring loom about to mount it the other way round. Finding the parts you should need should be reasonably easy apart from a right hand side power steering rack as these are rarer than hen's teeth! you could probably manage with a manual rack as the powered unit is far too light.
