Hi all

is there a need to remove the overdrive drain plug if I remove the drain plug from the gearbox and drain the old oil from there as the drain plug on the o/d is REALLY hard to move even with the Moss supplied tool.

thanks in anticipation of any replies

Im afraid you do to properly drain as the oil doesnt drain back out and then you can clean the filter revealed once its out, the proper tool should remove it OK.

Nige -

How about fitting the Moss Overdrive Plug tool, then giving the handle of the tool a very sharp "tap" - this should "shock" it into moving...I have undone nuts torqued up to near 100 lbft with this method.  Alternative try putting an extension peice (scaffolding pole or similar) onto the tool's handle to give you more leverage...

No need for the gym!

Good luck - Mark

The "tap" is carried out by using a copper hide lump hammer onto the shaft of the tool in the direction of thread to undo.  Sometimes by trying to do the thread up just a smidge before trying to undo it also loosens up any crud and can help too...

My GB/OD was reconditioned by a well known specialist over here, it is leaking on the GB drain plug (new plug) and on the OD drain plug. Next time I remove them I will see how I can eliminate these. The remainder of the GB/OD flanges does not leak. If there a better alternative for the large fibre washer?
