I’m trying to repair/ refurbish my TR250 gauges. I’ve stripped the temperature gauge and found the blue plastic bulb diffuser to be broken (hole), can you get replacements anywhere or could I just install a coloured bulb and do without the diffuser?

There has been quite a bit of traffic on this issue. The instrument lights are, in general, very poor. Probably the best modern option is to remove the diffuser entirely and replace with LEDs - these can be bought coloured or white or warm white (classiccarleds ...).  Note that the rheostat will not work with LEDs - you will have to replace it with a PWM unit (easier than you may think, message me if you require details of how to do this). An option is just to short the rheostat wiring.

The diffusers do seem to suffer over time and if there has been a bulb problem they go brown/black/break.

Just replaced the high beam, oil light and indicator warning lights in my TR6 with coloured LEDs from Classic Car LEDs. The diffusers have deteriorated, but the replacements are still brighter than the old white bulbs. Worthwhile, and if your diffusers are stuffed then a simple and cheap fix.

Of course most don't require the rheostat dimming function, and the LED's will work with the rheostat in place if its put at the maximum brightness position.
