Hamish
I saw this on eBay and not seen it before. TRIUMPH TR3 CAR TRANSPARENT BODY 1956 VINTAGE MOUNTED IMAGE MOTORING HISTORY https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184630835660
iain
Would love to have seen that for real. Motor show exhibit I guess. I’m pretty sure it’s in the Sidescreen Compendium by B Piggott Iain
R.M.
wow, must have cost them a pretty penny to make at the time, looks like Perspex, wonder if it still exists somewhere, surly it was never scrapped too artistic to have been disposed of, some one must still have it. Ralph Whitaker
That looks like Earls Court judging by the other signs hanging from the roof, but I wonder, as it is a left hand drive car, whether it then got shipped out to the US and may have ended up over there doing the circuit of the dealers. Ralph.

Quick coffee and a Google later however . . . "Oct. 07, 1956 - New Triumph T.R.3. on display at Earls court. Sports Car fitted with disc brakes. Centre of attraction at the International Motor Show, opened at Earls Court by the Prime Minister this morning, is the new Triumph T.R.3. Sports car, now fitted with the much talked of disc brakes. Admiring the car, which has been fitted with a special transparent body for display purposes, is lovely model Shirley Ann fields." Pathe News reported on the show too. The TR isn't featured ... but still, I'd happily part with my hard earned for a Silver Cloud with "fitted radio telephone, and coffee machine". Ooh swish! Cheers, Deggers
iain
Nice updates Deggers, not seen those pictures or the film before. Iain
Lebro
Seems to be a lot of suitcases in that boot ! Bob.
R.M.
Oh goody new pictures, what a shame they didn't put it into production, all that effort and expense to make Perspex panels that look exactly the same as the steel ones, all very 50's hip daddio sci-fi invisible man type stylee. ianc
I recall Shirley Ann Field from the 1950s, a pin-up girl! Very attractive lady, and still around at 84. Ian Cornish

Ralph Whitaker
Great picture. I tried to find some more pics of the TR but failed. I did however find this of a Moggie thou at the same show. Perspex must have been busy that year, and obviously Morris didn`t have the same budget as Triumph. transparent minor.jfif
Charlie D
Triumph were quite imaginative when it came to publicity cars. This is a Herald that they used at various events. It used to be at the Coventry Motor Museum, maybe still is. Charlie.
Ralph Whitaker
Oooh, an early coupe. I had a slightly later one in yellow and white about 30 years ago. Ralph
Nigel C
I've been involved in "this sort of thing" for a long time and I dread to think what that would cost to do now! I have a couple of motor show pics, I'll sort them out as my father before me was in the exhibition trade too.
R.M.
where's the pictures of Shirley Ann Field sporting the new transparent dress fashion, i hear it's all the rage.
Don H.
I've heard rumors, sotto voce, that the Perspex car (or part of it) still exists. Anybody know anything they can talk about publicly?

Ralph Not necessarily. Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA, Perspex, Lucite, Plexiglas...) is a very stable plastic. Extremely good UV resistance and remarkably low water absorption. If the transparent TR or parts of it exist, mechanical damage is more likely than weathering or aging.
