colin3511
Hi, Thought my cross shaft pin was broken so pulled the gearbox. Wanted to replace the clutch anyway as PO said it had a TR4 or 4A clutch in, to make changing gear easier. Having substantially increased the engine power the current clutch assembly may not be man enough. Anyway pin not broken but the spine shaft is a smaller diameter than the standard TR6 - 1” instead of 1.25”. Is there an issue with keeping the thinner drive shaft with the engine producing around 165bhp? Ordered a new TR6 cover plate but wanted advice before putting it all back together. BlueTR3A-5EKT
Sounds like you have a Triumph big saloon car gearbox fitted ie 2000 or 2.5 PI. Classic non specialist garage mistake with a TR that has a saloon gearbox fitted is the fit a TR clutch plate and discover there is no drive as the splines do not connect. Did you buy the right plate now with the correct sized spline? That 1" shaft size was also standard on Dolomite Sprint which in factory standard form had 127 bhp. It was said a Factory BL Special tuning Dolomite Sprint in racing or rally form would have getting on for 180 bhp, and that used the same 1" sized spline gearbox input shaft. No doubt the racing fraternity will be able to advise. Peter W
ntc
Yep saloon plate and input shaft and not an issue
colin3511
Thanks Neil and Peter, just what I wanted to hear! The pressure plate looks like a Tr6 one but I don’t know. Should I replace it with a new one so I know it’s right? I assume the friction plate is okay to reuse as it’s only done 1000 miles. After the engine work I did drive it for a few miles before gear changing issues, now known to be hydraulic. I drove it pretty hard with no issue or slippage. Advice appreciated.
