Hi Ralph,

I have a reply from Jeff at Moss.

They have been in contact with the manufacturer but are having little success at the moment.

They will continue to chase the manufacturer.  However Moss and others do have rather a lot of stock.

Apparently it is possible to flatten the spring with careful application of a hammer (I would possible consider a vice).

Your spring replacement is a good way of going about it.

Roger

Flattening the spring is one thing but the different pocket size at the bottom of the bracket is a whole different ball game and cant be easily got over.

Stuart.

Thanks Stuart,

I am unfamiliar with the way these are fitted to the car so can't easily feed back to Jeff.

Roger

I probably have original ones here somewhere if you need one to take in to compare.

Same rectification trick as you do to some of the repro body panels then......

I’ll get my coat.

Assemble without peening the rivets and check with side screen to confirm spring tension.

Update

thanks Peter job done.

I'm afraid my hammerology isn’t the best I didn’t have a concave punch to crush them neatly.

had to close the spring up a little but the trial fit informed that and easily done in the vice before it was fitted.

Well done Hamish.  Back on the road again.
I should have lent you a rivet snap.

Looks like that dzus retainer was bang on for size, the No6 I got had to be stretched a bit to get the hole centres, those must be 6+a bit.

Yes I did spot them, only two were original AFIK someone got too enthusiastic with their bidding, theyre not worth that even if it had been a set of four.

Its a problem when you have originals that are poor condition on the chrome as re-chroming effectively wipes off the lettering.

Interesting to see that they actualy appear to have 6 1/2 stamped on the heads, so maybe Dzus used to be available in sizes larger than the 6 that seems to be the max nowadays.
