Orders from UK to Europe

Recommended Posts

Hi

I'm sad to say to those living on the mainland all of my rebuild parts for my top end rebuild are either stuck somewhere in transit with  an unknown delivery date or even returned to original supplier.

It’s strange that this seems to be a problem, a lot of Christmas presents were late this year too, but got there in the end. It probably will take some time before systems are in place to deal with the new procedures. As I’m Norwegian and Norway is not in the EU or customs Union either shipping sometimes takes a bit longer due to the vat/customs clearance but it should be ok after they have implemented these systems, could take a while maybe...

It may not be Brexit-CV19 is playing havoc with shipping worldwide.

DPD have suspended deliveries to Ireland for a week due to incorrect paperwork causing a huge backlog. If the necessary documentation is not available to the courier the chances are it will be returned to sender, and most of them don't know what is now necessary to send to the EU which is causing a backlog.

Time to use Bastuck, etc........;)

Hi

I looked at Bastuck and the website is not a touch on Moss, also the rocker shaft for example is 55 euros and does not say why its so expensive or different.

Generally the vendors have their own couriers or preferred, so not often you can change it.  Anyway, just saying my rebuild parts are all stuck in the etha and unless this gets sorted I will spend my money not in the UK - - and as a proud ex serviceman that saddens me.

I spoke to two, one said the couriers have said no more until a bunch if issues are sorted (so in short they wont pickup) and the other said they were trying to understand the new 8 pages of paperwork.  One of the vendors used the term 'exasperated . . . '.   Sorry, not trying to make a political point, but this is just stupidity towards business during already tough economic times.

My wife has stopped sending goods to Europe or Ireland for the time being until we know what paperwork required. our normal shipper - UPS will not even accept shipments to Northern Ireland!

We are too old to bother investigating the requirements so will probably cease any international business as we have enough domestic work..

Hi All

Unfortunately this could be one of the consequences of leaving the single market. There seems to be lots more rules and new paperwork and it takes time and costs money for each exporting company to set up new systems.

Once all of the rules are known and things are in place are in place it might not be too much of a problem for the bigger volume sellers, depending on how much international business they do but for smaller or specialist suppliers it might just be too much of an unknown and thus hassle so as Nigel said people will just stop international supplies.

Less of a problem for us here with our British cars but I’m glad I don’t own an unusual 70’s Merc, BMW or VW as it seems likely similar small niche outfits in the EU will think in a similar way.

Good luck. Glad I'm out of it.

A lot of the problem is shippers paperwork had to show the customs code(s) for the items shipped and I suspect that a certificate of origin  or statement has also to be supplied? Its back to the old days of 50 years ago, That is why I was against coming out of the customs union! I remember well the paperwork chase of years ago. The sun and moon has to be in the right quarter before anything moves? It can be a nightmare!

Oh jeeze

I have my head at a UK workshop for re-work, and have a horrible feeling it wont be so easy to get it back here when completed.    As the Latin saying asks . . Cui bono----??

I think there is a lot of misinformation circulating about this issue - I arranged to send a crate to Belgium with a gearbox in it just before Christmas - it was picked up in the West Midlands on Friday 18th December by TNT and naturally I was extremely worried as to what would happen and how long it would take, because at that point we still did not have an agreement with the EU. All  the media coverage was saying that there was chaos at the Channel ports and total mayhem.

You can imagine my surprise when it arrived at it's destination in Belgium on Wednesday 23 Dec by 10.00am!

In my experience, it's not all doom and gloom. I've been using on line purchasing a lot and Amazon and Hermes seem able to deliver stuff next day. I ordered some parts off ebay which were only at Stansted, just over 30 miles away, but they were sent by Royal Mail - took 8 days to be delivered. I also ordered some parts off ebay from India ( under £25 worth) and wasn't sure what to expect - how long would it take, whether there would be any import duties ete etc? Well , it arrived on the 8th January - no extra duties required, no declarations, just dropped off - draw your own conclusions

Cheers Rich

One business recently stated "leaving the customs union has produced the biggest increase in red tape and bureaucracy in a generation".

I gather, from various press reports, that this has been made even worse by the adoption by HMRC of the process of VAT collection at source rather than at destination. For example; Bastuck now needs to decide if it wants to sell to the UK, if so, then it needs to register with HMRC, understand and comply with the import VAT regulations, in English. Alternatively, it can set up a distribution business in the UK. I suppose that a final alternative is give a gallic shrug and ignore the law, a more likely route for small French businesses? Many small businesses in the EU have already decided that the hassle of dealing with the new UK red tape is not worth it. Large business, e.g. car companies, had to do this anyway so no change but they have the infrastructure to manage it. If some EU countries see the UK insisting on this bizarre practice then they could retaliate which would have dire consequences for exports to the EU by small UK businesses. Fancy registering your business in 26 different countries in 26 languages, understanding and complying with 26 different laws? Could be fun, not. I can see a whole new business opportunity as facilitators to make this happen smoothly, it will only add unnecessary cost. It is also good for jobs for the boys in the civil service, provided you went to the right school.

I hope common sense prevails and we find a way of removing these artificial trade barriers. Get the politicians out of the loop and let people who know what they are doing sort it out.

Mick

you won't need to wait long for logistics company(ies) to establish new services to handle the revised steps on behalf of the retailer, just a new opportunity.

That may be so but you can bet it will cost more.

Hi Richard,

there are a couple of other EU suppliers here in Holland.

Loco Classic parts sell the Moss items mainly but are more expensive.

https://lococlassics.nl/

Nico Baas sells TR parts too, sometimes at reasonable prices. https://triumphcentre.nl/

There are others too, but more expensive.

Give them a call to see if the ship to you.

Waldi
