Pushrod tubes

Recommended Posts

There were two material types used for the pushrod tubes - steel and aluminium alloy.  I am not certain but I think they are the same diameter and therefore interchangeable.  The alloy ones in my TR4A cylinder head are pushed in and flared at both ends.  I re-flared the top ends of the tubes using a round ended punch and hammer,  before fitting the head to hopefully seal them against oil seepage.

I have not done this but I would suggest that prior to flaring out each end put some sealant in the flared surface.

Capillary action will take the oil through the tightest joints.

I was thinking of doing this a long time back and considered using two large steel ball bearings to squeeze the parts together.
