ronhatch
Hi all, I need to replace 2 pushrod tubes on a TR4 head which have rusted through, are they pressed in or are they just pushed in and flared to seal ?. I am preparing the head for unleaded conversion and so I have complete access. Regards and seasons greetings Ron
BlueTR3A-5EKT
There were two material types used for the pushrod tubes - steel and aluminium alloy. I am not certain but I think they are the same diameter and therefore interchangeable. The alloy ones in my TR4A cylinder head are pushed in and flared at both ends. I re-flared the top ends of the tubes using a round ended punch and hammer, before fitting the head to hopefully seal them against oil seepage. part number 100792 https://www.revingtontr.com/product/100792/name/tube-sealing-push-rod Cheers Peter W
RogerH
I have not done this but I would suggest that prior to flaring out each end put some sealant in the flared surface. Capillary action will take the oil through the tightest joints. I was thinking of doing this a long time back and considered using two large steel ball bearings to squeeze the parts together.
