Hi John,

ref Moss.  Having got the page I want to copy, I click on the top address bar. This turns blue.

I then do a Control C

I then put the cursor  on forum text page and then do a Control V

https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/shop-by-model/triumph/tr2-4a/engine/cylinder-head-fittings/cylinder-head-tr2-4a-1953-67.html

Youtube is different. A while ago you couldnt cut/paste the URL as such. If you do a right click on the image you can copy the URL and then paste.

Thanks Roger,  Thats exactly what I always did, but now in last couple of weeks,  it leaves off the https and slashes, this is how it comes out now,    Camshaft (moss-europe.co.uk)

Adding urls - Forum Help / Rules - TR Register Forum (tr-register.co.uk)

Could this be something to do with blocking cookies perhaps?

Reviving this thread, I have a very similar problem.      Can't post links.

All that pears is a text heading for the page I wanted to link to.  EG:     Home (tr-register.co.uk)

This should be, as it says,  the Home front page for the TR Register, which I can link to, if I type it out in full, by hand:  https://www.tr-register.co.uk

But the usual method of copy and paste doesn't work.

The above didn't find a solution.  can anyone suggest one, please?

I should say that I have this problem only on this site!

John

Hello John

As Roger says - get to page you want to link to e.g. this one of Neil Young on youtube and click on the url bit at the top of the page. When this turns blue do right click 'copy' or edit 'copy'. Then on Register page where you want to put it look for the safety pin symbol (6th in from top right) at the top of your text box. Click on this. Then paste the url into where it says url. Thats it done. If you try to paste the link any other way then it doesn't work when you click on it. I discovered this only recently.

Anyway enjoy Neil Young and Crazy Horse having a real laid back recording session of their latest offering. Draw up your old rocking chair, grab a cold beer y'all and enjoy. Some nice shots of the wide open prairie, lakes and night skies. A couple of dogs join in. Have a piss outside in the yard. Kinda laid back but it all comes together in the end even when they realise that there was supposed to be 10 songs and they only have 9.

Then there is something odd about your system Keith, as I can just copy and paste URLs directly without bothering with that paperclip and they will usually embed if allowed by youtube, like so:

I wonder whether it depends on what device or operating system is being used to do the posting?

Hi Rob

I'm on a mac so quite possibly it is different. However when you have posted the url directly into the text as you have done it displays (on my computer) as the youtube page but on the tr-register page. Yes I can open and play it but if you look at my link to the Neil Young video, it displays as the url. Click on that and it takes you to the actual youtube page as a separate page tab. The way you have done it for the Jethro Tull video you are still on the tr-register page not the youtube page if you look at where you are at the top of the computer screen. So although both methods work, using the paperclip will open the url as a new page or tab.

I'm using a Macbook Air so it can't be that.  If the URL I paste isn't linkable it displays normally e.g:

https://www.gannett-cdn.com/-mm-/23dd656786aef27f3909d1ec28e1f04697a4a982/c=0-51-1024-630/local/-/media/2018/02/01/FortMyers/FortMyers/636530853138031319-Ride-Triumph11.JPG?width=3200&height=1680&fit=crop

I get the option of displaying the content directly or as a link, when I do the paste.

Of course, showing how it should work isn't helping John any - I think he already knows that.

I wonder what is actually recorded when the copy is made?  Perhaps the system is somehow translating it instead of just recording the URL verbatim?  Maybe whatever OS he is using is being just too helpful?  Pasting it into a text document might be useful, to see exactly what is there.

I wonder if this is a Chrome thing?

I've sussed how to do it, simply, Keith!

"Copy" the URL you want to link to, then in the post right click where you want to put it,

Then, and this is the secret, click on "Paste as plain text", like this:  https://www.tr-register.co.uk/

If you, or I, just use "Paste", you get:  Home (tr-register.co.uk)

Voila!    No idea why.
